Exploring Vintage Woodwinds with Passion

Welcome to Charles Fail’s Blog! I am an experienced instrument restorer sharing insights on vintage woodwind instruments.

What’s in a Name?

In the case of musical instruments, we feel that the period between the 1920’s through the 1960’s truly represents a “Golden Era.” Our mission at Golden Era Instruments is to locate, lovingly restore, and reunite these earlier instruments to owners who want and appreciate what they represent. Dr. Charles Fail, Golden Era’s founder is a master instrument technician with over a half-century experience repairing and restoring these vintage instruments and he has passed down this knowledge to other members of his family who are involved in this family business. Whether it be a professional, intermediate, or student grade instrument, we believe our instruments represent true value. We guarantee it!

Golden Era Instruments is a “labor of love” for Dr. Charles Fail and family. For many years, Charles and his family owned and operated Charles Fail Music, Inc. This restoration and sales facility earned customers worldwide for quality. It was featured in Southern Living Magazine and on Charles Wood’s Across America series on CNN. Stepping back from some of his university teaching responsibilities in semi-retirement, Charles has opened his small shop dedicated to buying, restoring, and selling vintage and pre-owned musical instruments. We believe that yesterday’s instruments were in many ways superior to those of today and restoring these requires the skills and experience that the Fail family possesses. If you are one of our old friends and customers, we would enjoy hearing from you and if you love the older instruments as we do, we would appreciate your business.
